Website Policies
All USM Libraries' Webpages are subject
to the policies of the University at large. Please refer to
USM's
Web Publishing Policies for University-wide policies on
Web Publishing.
The Web Committee and Departmental
Web Editors
Role of the Web Committee
The Web Committee maintains
oversight for the policies and procedures of the
USM Libraries website. The Web Committee has authority to
resolve conflicts and arbitrate disputes regarding publishing
of web pages to the USM Libraries website. The Web Committee's
responsibilities include:
- advising the webmaster and web editors on the design
and content of all USM Libraries web pages
- reviewing, recommending, and approving policies and guidelines
related to the USM Libraries website
- enforcing these policies and guidelines
- organizing training for all web editors
- resolving conflicts related to the development of the
USM Libraries website including all content
Role of the Webmaster
The Webmaster maintains control of the Library
webserver and access to it. Other responsibilities of the
webmaster include:
- creating and updating top-level pages
- maintaining all miscellaneous server content including
forms, scripts, images, and templates
- advising the Web Committee and Departmental Web Editors
- offer help and consultation to Web Committee and Departmental
Web Editors
Role of Departmental Web Editors
Each department must assign at least one person as their
Department's Web Editor. This person is responsible for creating
an maintaining all pages related to the Department (e.g. Reference
will create research guides). This involves:
- developing specific information resources for departmental
based needs within the framework provided by the policies,
guidelines, and templates
- maintaining and updating these pages in a timely manner
- coordinating page development and major revisions with
the web master and appropriate departmental web editors
to ensure that links remain accurate
Policies for Web page creation
- Anyone who works on the Web site is required to take a
training course in Dreamweaver before they can edit web
pages.
- All new pages must use one of the templates provided.
If new templates or layouts are needed, the Web master will
help create what is necessary.
- All pages must use a template that includes the official
USM header and footer as well as the Libraries' breadcrumb
navigation.
- All main departmental pages and pages within one click
of the library home page must use a template that includes
the side navigation bar.
