Cultural Crossings: African Americans & Native Americans
The writers of the two books in this exhibition celebrate people with African-Native American heritage, even elevating them to a special status. The books featured here are both by writers with an African-Native American background, and they represent two early examples of cultural crossings between cultures and peoples. Whereas Elleanor Eldridge (African-Narragansett) documents her own personal experience with African-Native American and white culture, Robert Benjamin Lewis (African-Native American) charts the broader history of African-Native American and white interactions, as well as documenting the creation of a variety of African-Native American cultures.
