WebFeat is a federated search engine used by over 16,500 leading public, academic, government and Global 1000 libraries and information centers—including over a third of the largest 100 U.S. public libraries, 17 statewide library systems, and 2 out of every 10 Association of Research Libraries (ARL) institutions.

The WebFeat concept is simple: search any or all of the MARVEL! databases simultaneously with a single intuitive interface. WebFeat can search any database, including licensed databases, free databases, online catalogs, Z39.50, Telnet, proprietary databases, pretty much
anything.

Political Debate Writ Small: The Art and Rhetoric of the Political Button

There are many types of buttons in this exhibition, such as: picture buttons, name buttons, slogan and issue buttons, mottoes and manifestoes buttons, and inaugural buttons. Buttons are put out by the national committees of the major political parties, and others are produced by regional organizations, or third-party candidates. Drawn from the Gerald E. Talbot Collection of the African American Collection of Maine the Political Debate Writ Small: The Art and Rhetoric of the Political Button virtual exhibition presents political buttons as a medium for examining American politics and activism. Along with the graphics and text, the exhibition includes a section of "points to ponder" to help instructors use the exhibition with their classes.

Cultural Crossings: African Americans & Native Americans

The writers of the two books in this exhibition celebrate people with African-Native American heritage, even elevating them to a special status. The books featured here are both by writers with an African-Native American background, and they represent two early examples of cultural crossings between cultures and peoples. Whereas Elleanor Eldridge (African-Narragansett) documents her own personal experience with African-Native American and white culture, Robert Benjamin Lewis (African-Native American) charts the broader history of African-Native American and white interactions, as well as documenting the creation of a variety of African-Native American cultures. Grand Opening: The Commons@Gorham Library

The Gorham Library and IT User Services have joined forces and are pleased to announce the Grand Opening of The Commons@Gorham Library. At 1:00pm on Wednesday November 28, 2007, Chief Information Officer Bill Wells performed the ceremonial Ribbon Cutting officially signifying the opening of the The Commons@Gorham Library. This brings together the technical support of the Gorham Computer Lab staff and the research expertise and customer service skills of the Library staff in one convenient space.

Osher Map Library closed for construction

Construction on OML's three story addition will begin in November 2007. As a result OML will closed from November 15, 2007 through Fall 2008. We apologize for the inconvenience but hope you will enjoy the new expanded library when it reopens next Fall.
