In order to find books, journals, you will need to consult URSUS, the online catalog. Because journal article citations are not individually included in URSUS, you will need to use a discipline-specific index to identify journal articles (see Indexes and Databases section below), then URSUS to check for holdings.
Books that are not available through the University of Maine System (URSUS) or Maine InfoNet may be requested through Interlibrary Loan (Illiad). Journal articles that are are not available at the USM Libraries may be requested through Interlibrary Loan (Illiad).

Academic Search Premier
Date coverage: Varies
Provides indexing for 8,025 publications, with full text for more than 4,500 scholarly publications of which over 3,600 are peer reviewed.
Art Index
Date Coverage: 1985-present
Art Index is a bibliographic database that indexes articles about art, architecture, archaeology, crafts, design, museology, photography, television and textiles, in addition to all aspects of art including graphic, folk, and decorative, from periodicals published throughout the world.
Art Index Retrospective
Date Coverage: 1929-1984
A bibliographic database that cumulates citations to volumes 1-32 of Wilson's Art Index (more than 600 publications). International in scope.
Arts and Humanities Search
Date Coverage: 1980-present
Indexes the world's leading arts and humanities journals; selected articles from social science and science journals; and indexes articles, bibliographies, editorials, letters, reviews, and more.
On-campus access only.
Directory of Open Access Journals
The aim of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. Includes journals in art, visual arts, and architecture.
ProQuest Dissertations and Theses
Date Coverage: Varies
ProQuest Dissertations & Theses and ABI/INFORM Global databases allow users to search dissertations and selected newspapers.
WorldCat
Bibliographic records for more than 36 million items held at OCLC member libraries throughout the world. Includes all types of information resources, and is useful for identifying book chapters, essays, etc. that can easily be missed by other sources. Updated daily.

USM has a site license for Endnote, a personal reference database program. The main functions of this program include maintenance of a database of references, downloading references from other databases, using the database to link to references in word-processed documents, and generating a bibliography in the correct style for publications.
