 Introduction

Susan Feiner's class, Political Economy (Econ 303) is an information intensive course. This "course guide" will help you navigate and find that information in many more (and often better) places than Google. Gist: the course guide has, all in one place, links to nearly all those sources of information you'll need for this class (for example...how to find both up to date articles and books).

 Indexes and Databases

All of the following may be accessed on campus or off. When accessing from off campus you will need to provide your name and USM ID bar code...which starts with the numbers 25022... any problems? Ask a Librarian

URSUS will help you find books on economic policy, consumers, consumerism, current economic trends, the role of the monetary sector, Alan Greenspan, Juliet Schor, John Kenneth Galbraith, Robert Pollin, and more. It searches about a dozen libraries simultaneously but can be limited to search only Portland, Gorham, or other specified libraries.

Academic Search Premier Provides full text for nearly 4,000 scholarly publications of which 3,100 are peer reviewed. A good starting place, but worthwhile checking other databases, too.

Business Source Premier Provides full text for more than 2,800 scholarly business journals of which 912 are peer reviewed. Coverage includes: management, economics, finance, accounting, international business and much more.

EconLit Contains citations and abstracts to economic research from the present back to 1969. Provides comprehensive information on accounting, capital markets, econometrics, economic forecasting, government regulations, labor economics, monetary theory, urban economics and much more.

Statistical Abstract of the United States - Provides access to approximately 1500 statistical tables drawn from published and unpublished data from federal agencies and others. Updated annually. An excellent source for many statistics.
