Liaison Librarian to the LAC Nursing studentsts 753-6541 or Sheila
Johnson (sheilaj@usm.maine.edu),
Liaison Librarian for the USM Nursing Program in Portland 780-4690.
This guide is designed for Prof. Cheri Sarton's
NUR 311 Spring 2008 class in Lewiston.
At LAC, the reference books are interfiled
with the books that circulate. Check out our collection of nursing
books, or request items from the USM Portland campus library collection.
Although the NUR
100 guide lists the major indexes and databases to use, you
will find other useful databases at the Resources
by Subject: Nursing site. Contact your librarian for one-on-one
instruction if you have any trouble using them. Remember to click
on Article
Linker when you see the link to see if the full-text of the
article can be found online at USM.
Try using "sexuality and nursing"
as keywords in your search in URSUS or in databases; or use keywords
that are more specific. Remember CINAHL has a thesaurus feature!!
First time users, please refer to the NUR
100 guide for basic information on using your USM ID card for
library services, and for getting started with library research.
You will find information on nursing databases and tips on limited
your results to scholarly, peer-reviewed resources.
For excellent examples of annotated bibliographies,
try these resources:
* Writing
Book Reviews (from Indiana University)
* How
to Prepare an Annotated Bibliography (from Cornell University)
* How
to Write Annotated Bibliographies (from Memorial University
Libraries)
* How
do I?...Write an Annotated Bibiliography? (from Skidmore College)

Accurate, properly formatted footnotes and
bibliographies are indicators of good academic research, and the
ethical/legal use of information. The standard citation style for
nursing courses is APA (American Psychological Association).
