A literature review is an evaluation of significant research materials (articles, books, government publications, etc.) published on a particular subject. In essence, it is a review of the "body of knowledge" making up a specific subject area.

A literature review synthesizes important information and concepts from published sources (books, reports and studies), groups them into themes, and relates them to your subject of interest.
