In Module 1 you learned:
- that a literature review is a survey of scholarly works (e.g., articles, books, dissertations, theses, conference proceedings, and government documents) on a particular topic.
- that the primary purpose of the literature review is to present descriptions, summaries, and critical evaluations of each work (the literature) as a means to present an overview of significant literature published on a topic.
- that in selecting your topic, you are trying to define your research problem: that is, filling a gap in knowledge, elaborating on previous research, or offering an alternative explanation.
- that with the literature review, you are trying to read the major scholarly sources relevant to your research problem that will provide the context for your research problem.
In Module 2 you learned:
- where and how to search and obtain scholarly works published on a particular topic.
In Module 3, you will learn how to write the literature review.
